Hawaii Magazine Covers
A collection of some of my favorite covers—each one telling a visual story rooted in place, people, and purpose.
Best of Hawai‘i – I commissioned photographer Dallas Nagata White for this shoot. While scouting Kailua Beach, we stumbled upon a sand dune and captured a low-angle composition by accident—one we ended up loving.
Summer in Hawai‘i: Local Style – A high-angle beach shot of a couple enjoying the sun perfectly captured the easy, breezy spirit of the issue.
Coming to Hawai‘i – My editor and I went all-in on a black-and-white archival photo theme. With the help of the Hawai‘i State Archives and Bishop Museum, we curated a compelling series of historic images and stories.
75 Places to Eat Like a Local: Mixed Plate Edition – A bold move, this was the first time a food dish appeared on the cover of Hawai‘i Magazine. We took the chance—and it paid off. Photography by Steve Czerniak.
Disappearing Lāna‘i – While visiting Hawai‘i, photographer Grant Kaye, a former Lāna‘i resident, stopped by our office. The timing was perfect. We immediately clicked and documented his return home, capturing the island’s spirit, people, and this unforgettable pineapple moment.
