Honolulu Magazine Covers
A selection of some of my favorite covers, blending visual storytelling with local relevance—each designed to capture the spirit of the issue while standing out on the newsstand.
Honolulu in 1888 – The image of King David Kalākaua leapt out during an extensive search through the Bishop Museum Archives.
Chef + Farmer = 6 Totally Locally Grown Dishes – I commissioned photographer Olivier Koning to shoot this dish at Alan Wong’s. It was a race against time as the food kept melting, requiring multiple rounds of replating.
Best Doctors – We featured Dr. Rupa Wong, a notable ophthalmologist in Honolulu. Photographed by Rae Huo in her studio, she brought great energy to the shoot.
Private School Guide 2012 – I partnered with a Premiere Modeling Agency to cast high school students for the cover, photographed by David Croxford.
Cheap Eats – The pulled pork sandwich was a team favorite for this cover. We built a mini studio setup on location at the restaurant. Photographed by Linny Morris.
